Season Recap: The beginning of the season starts with Ted Mosby, facing his children on a brown couch in 2030. He narrates what legitimately justifies the title of the series how he met their mother.

The series begins as it rewinds to 2005, where we see Ted Mosby, an aspiring 27-year-old architect living with his best friends Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin. Marshall is a struggling law student (at least, for now!), and Lily is a kindergarten teacher who nurtured a passion for art.

And of course, we meet another of Ted’s friend, Barney Stinson. Portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris, Barney is seen as a pompous, narcissistic, impulsive womanize. The story proceeds as it shows how Ted is on the constant search to stumble upon his soulmate. He meets a beautiful, ambitious Canadian reporter, Robin Scherbatsky. 

Ted continues the story, narrating how he meets Victoria and clicks with her almost immediately, making Robin jealous. Eventually, Victoria and Ted enter a long-distance relationship, which fails to work out leaving Ted back on square one. 

Lily ditches her everlasting relationship with Marshall in fear of not having done much in her life. She leaves for San Francisco to pursue her passion, leaving Marshall (and the fans!) heartbroken. Ted returns to a miserable Marshall on the stairs, gazing at Lily’s engagement ring. The nine-year-old relationship is now off, along with their wedding.
